Privacy policy

This policy explains what personal information the studio collects about families and students, why, where it is stored, for how long, and how to have it corrected or deleted. It applies to every enrolled family, to adult students managing their own account, and to anyone filling out the enrolment form.

1. Who is responsible

The studio is run by Mircea Chiriac, a piano teacher based in Quebec City. Mircea is the person in charge of protecting personal information for the studio: any question, or request to access, correct or withdraw consent, goes to him.

Contact: info@mirceapiano.com.

2. Information collected

Depending on a family's relationship with the studio, the following may be collected:

  • contact details of parents or guardians (name, email, phone) and of anyone else authorized to receive lesson communications
  • the student's first name, last name and date of birth
  • the lesson schedule and attendance at each lesson
  • lesson notes and assigned homework
  • practice tasks checked off by the family
  • files uploaded by the family in the portal (photos, practice recordings, documents)
  • scores from the portal's music mini-games
  • payment information, handled directly by Stripe — the studio never stores a card number

3. Why this information is collected

Each piece of information serves a specific purpose, never a third-party commercial one:

  • organizing the lesson schedule and confirming an enrolment
  • communicating with the family about lessons, homework and billing
  • adapting teaching to the student's level and age
  • operating the family portal (homework, materials, games)
  • billing lessons and processing payments

4. Where data is stored

The studio's data is hosted with Supabase, in the Canada region (ca-central-1). Emails sent by the studio (confirmations, homework, lesson summaries) go through Amazon SES, also configured for this studio.

No information is sold, rented, or used for advertising — by the studio or by any third party.

5. Who can see what

The teacher sees the information of every student he teaches. A family, through the portal, sees only its own children's information: schedule, sent homework, lesson materials and approved summaries.

No information is shared with another parent, another student, or any outside business other than the technical providers named in this policy (Supabase for hosting, Amazon SES for email, Stripe for payment).

6. Lesson recordings

A lesson is never recorded without the dated consent given by the family, at enrolment or later. This consent can be withdrawn at any time by writing to info@mirceapiano.com.

The audio recording is used only to produce a written lesson summary and dictated homework. It is transcribed, then deleted immediately after the summary is created — the audio is never kept long-term.

Lesson audio
deleted as soon as the summary is created
Raw transcript
kept 12 months
Summaries, homework and student levels
kept 3 years after the last lesson, then deleted

7. Concert photos and videos

Photos or videos taken during a studio concert or event are only used or shared with a separate, dated consent, distinct from the lesson-recording consent.

8. Cookies

The family portal uses only session cookies, needed to stay logged in. No advertising or third-party analytics tracking cookies are used on the portal.

9. Your rights

Under Law 25, every family has the right to:

  • access the personal information the studio holds about them or their child
  • have inaccurate or incomplete information corrected
  • withdraw a consent given (for example, to record lessons), at any time
  • request deletion of information that is no longer needed
  • file a complaint with the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec, if a response is unsatisfactory

10. How to exercise your rights

Any request related to this policy — access, correction, withdrawal of consent or deletion — is made by email to info@mirceapiano.com. The studio responds within a reasonable time, as required by Law 25.

The Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec can be contacted directly for a complaint about how the studio handles personal information.
